JFK ASSASSINATEDjfk-motorcade.jpg

On November 22, 1963, Kennedy and his wife traveled to Texas. As the presidential motorcade rode slowly through the crowded streets of Dallas, gunfire rang out. Kennedy was shot in the head and throat and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead moments later. Lee Harvey Oswald, the accused assassin, appeared to be a confused and embittered Marxist who had spent time in the Soviet Union. Lee was shot to death as well two days after being taken into police custody. In 1964, the Warren Commission concluded that Oswald was the lone assassin, and left quite a few questions unanswered. Theories about a conspiracy have persisted, though none have gained wide acceptance.
